The Fell Pony Stud „Gut Elbickerode“

The Fell Pony stud is located at Elbickerode, a small village near Göttingen, which lies in the southern part of Lower Saxony halfway between Bonn and Berlin on the North-South Autobahn A7 and the German Railway's north-south main line. The stud is set amid the rolling mountain landscape of southern Lower Saxony with its characteristic hills and valleys.

The first ponies were imported in 1994 from Cumbria, North-West England, the home of the Fell Pony. They were bred by the top breeders in the UK. Up to now, the stud has imported further breeding stock, so that today, it is, with 20 Fell Ponies making their home at Elbickerode, one of the biggest Fell Pony studs in Germany.

Five imported broodmares with very good pedigrees, like e.g the Champion mare Lownthwaite Songbird, and two homebreds are currently being used for breeding. The breeding program will be extented in the next years by two homebred.

During the winter the ponies live in half-open stables with access to paddocks, the whole summer they spend on large pastures, where the foals are born.
